From Excel spreadsheets and multiple apps to one easy-to-use platform for tennis, padel and pickleball.
Running competitions at a busy racket sports club can be a challenge. Between organising fixtures, collecting results, updating league tables and communicating with players, administrators can spend hours keeping everything running smoothly.
At Wargrave Tennis Club, the team wanted a simpler way to manage competitions across multiple sports.
With the help of Matchspace, they've brought their competition management together in one place, saving organisers time and making it easier for members to follow and participate in club competitions.
Like many clubs, Wargrave previously relied on a combination of spreadsheets, messaging platforms and specialist competition software.
Managing different competitions across tennis, padel and pickleball meant using several systems.
Michael Simpson, Chairman of Wargrave Tennis Club, explains:
“It's consolidated a number of different apps into one. I think it's a really easy-to-use platform.”
By introducing Matchspace, Wargrave has moved away from Excel spreadsheets and reduced its reliance on WhatsApp for competition communications.
Players can now access their competitions, results, league tables and messages through the same platform, available on mobile and desktop.
One of Wargrave's biggest successes has been using Matchspace to manage its club championships.
The club ran 10 championship competitions through Matchspace, comprising five tennis events and five padel events.
Previously, organisers had relied on Excel spreadsheets to manage competition information.
Matchspace brought fixtures, results and competition progress together, making the championships easier to administer and follow.

Michael explains:
“We ran 10 competitions on the platform, five for our padel championships and five for our tennis championships. And it was a real success.”
For players, the benefits were equally important. Rather than waiting for updates, they could easily see their own results and follow other matches taking place throughout the championships.
Wargrave also introduced Matchspace for its tennis box leagues.
The difference has been significant, particularly for the people responsible for organising them.
Michael says:
“It's really transformed how that competition is run, making the administration much, much easier.”
Players can view results within their own boxes and follow other groups, helping everyone stay connected with the wider competition.
With results and league information available in one place, organisers no longer need to rely on manually maintained spreadsheets.
Perhaps the strongest endorsement has come directly from Wargrave's competition organisers.
Both the tennis and padel organisers independently reported that Matchspace had saved them considerable time.
Michael explains:
“We've had two competition organisers, one for padel and one for tennis, and both of them independently have said how much time it's saved them.”
For volunteer organisers and busy coaches, reducing administration can make a real difference.
Less time managing spreadsheets and chasing updates means more time supporting the competitions themselves.
Matchspace has also helped Wargrave bring more of its competition communication into one place.
Instead of relying entirely on WhatsApp groups, players are increasingly using Matchspace's built-in chat functionality.
This allows competition discussions to sit alongside the fixtures, results and other information players need.
As Michael explains, players have started using the chat feature more, reducing the club's reliance on WhatsApp for competition-related communication.

Wargrave's use of Matchspace extends across three racket sports: tennis, padel and pickleball.
Following its success with box leagues and club championships, the club has also been looking to expand its use of the platform to support an ongoing padel ladder and a new Americano competition.
This flexibility is particularly valuable for multi-sport clubs looking to simplify their operations rather than manage separate systems for every activity.
Michael's message to other clubs considering the platform is clear:
“I think other clubs should seriously look at Matchspace as an option for them.”
He highlights the platform's ease of use, the availability of both mobile and desktop versions and the benefits of consolidating multiple apps.
For Wargrave, Matchspace has made running competitions easier for organisers and improved access to information for players.
